Keynote Speakers
Tuesday, October 14th
The Hochschilds are indeed related. This mother and son duo will take the stage as the keynote address on Tuesday at the 2025 CABEC Conference. The intersection of their work in energy efficiency and cultural differences between urban and rural America will provide for a fascinating discussion.
David Hochschild is Chair of the California Energy Commission and has served in that role since 2019. He focuses on international partnerships, legislative affairs, and the SB 100 transition of the California electric grid to clean energy.
Arlie Russell Hochschild is a best-selling author and professor whose recent books illuminate the world of rural America and help explain recent trends in American politics. Strangers in Their Own Land (2016) was a Finalist for the National Book Award and her most recent book Stolen Pride (2024) is also recognized on various Book of the Year lists, including Barack Obama’s. She will be signing books on Tuesday, as well.
