Steps to CEA Certification

  1. Submit Application – Apply so that your Certification progress can be always up to date and easily viewed in the Status Dashboard
  2. Sign Up For a Preparation Workshop – This full day workshop will focus on preparing candidates to take the multiple-choice and modeling portions of the Residential CEA exam administered through CABEC. The workshop includes key information about how the exam was developed, exam competencies and objectives, sample questions, study resources and exam taking tips.
  3. View Exam Resources – View Upcoming Exams, Review Test Materials, Learn what to expect and bring on your testing day.
  4. Register for Exam(s) – Select Exam Location and Date
  5. Watch the Professional Practices Workshop and confirm by editing your CEA profile, or send a quick email to [email protected] affirming that you viewed it.
  6. Fill out both 2019 Direct Experience Tally Sheet and 2019 Direct Experience Verification Form, get them signed off, and upload them to your profile or send as attachments to [email protected].
  7. Take and log in 9 CEU Title 24 Part 6 (Residential or Nonresidential) Credits on the CABEC website each year (including the year you pass the exam) to ensure you are updated on all of the changes to the energy code throughout the code cycle.
  • Take and pass 2019 Residential and/or Nonresidential Re-Certification Exam(s)
  • Take and log 9 hours of CEUs for Title 24 Residential / Nonresidential Education
  • Direct Experience and PPW would be grandfathered over from their 2016 Certification
  • Take and Log 9 hours of CEUs for Title 24 Residential / Nonresidential Education for each year after being certified
  • Pay Yearly Maintenance Fees in each subsequent year AFTER certification (i.e. 2016-Code CEAs achieved in 2018 would first pay Maintenance Fees in 2019)
