CABEC 2018 Brown Bag Webinar Series #4, April 18, 2018: Modeling the E+A+A Approach

The performance compliance approach may be applied to alterations and additions to existing buildings, referred to as E+A+A (Existing + Addition + Alteration) projects. Specific to the E+A+A approach, the energy consultant may claim compliance credit for efficiency improvements made to existing features (e.g. replacing windows or HVAC equipment) to help the overall building design meet the energy budget. Credit for upgrading existing features is can be substantially impacted by the pre-upgrade condition.

If a HERS rater is used to verify the pre-upgrade condition, the standard model may assume substantially worse features, resulting in much higher energy credits. Otherwise, the standard design will use default values. This session will discuss the details of how to determine if it is cost effective to hire a HERS rater to verify these features.
